Before now, she was one of the leading society women in Nigeria. She was always at every major event. She is always a special guest at major events and at also corporate events. This is because a lot of people like her, she is amiable, very stylish,an industrialist per excellence, a role model and she supports good causes. She sticks by her friends and supports them a lot. She is also one woman that has been able to balance both the social and corporate world. Many board rooms have been graced by the presence of the amiable presence of this quiet achiever. She was once the Director of Nigerian Industrial Development Bank (NIDB), a member of the Board of trustees, of the National Center for Women Development; member, panel to study and re-organize both the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and Trust Investment Company Limited Ibadan; Director of National Insurance Corporation of Nigeria (NICON).
She was a two time Minister of Industries of the Federal Republic of Nigeria under the late Gen Sanni Abacha regime. Don’t forget that she is also a respected high Chief. To crown it all, she is also from the illustrious Aboderin family. This explains why you see her at major weddings, chieftaincy and all that. And at this event, she usually accorded special treatment. She doesn’t go to party alone, she attends parties with either her friend Otunba or her sisters.
But lately, she has not been frequenting events like before. These days, it’s like she chooses event that she attend. Unlike before when she honors every major invitation that comes her way, she is now very selective. Authoritatively, it can be revealed that she has decided to slow down. When City People ran into her at any event, recently in Ikeja, she also confirmed that she has decided to mellow down on her social activities, as she has had enough publicity. Even at the event where she was sighted, she sat indoor in the company of her friend rather than sitting outdoor where the other guests were. And one of the reason she honored the celebrant is because of the strong family bond between her and the celebrant, the celebrant is also from the Aboderin family. Another event where she was sighted recently was also at the Olunloyo’s 70th birthday in Ibadan, which is also her home based. She was at the event in the company of her husband, Chief Bayo Akande. You can count the number of events you see her these days. Even though City People tried to probe further on why she decided to take that decision, all she could reveal to our reporter is the fact that its time for her to mellow down.
Obviously this has nothing to do with her any proven issue, as she is still very vibrant and beautiful as ever. She travels out of the country most of the time these days. She is also still active in the corporate world, contributing one or two things when she is been consulted. Recently, Chief Nike Akande was even elected the new president of Harvard Business School Alumni Association of Nigeria.
