TIPS ON DRESSING ETIQUETTE BY GM STYLES- PART 2
A GENTLEMAN’S SUIT
• The three basic principles of a good shirt are the cut, construction and fabric. The collar design is one of the essential features defining the style of every shirt.
• Two button shirt: A two button shirt serves for both corporate and casual outfit-weekdays and weekends. With GM Styles two button cut away collar, you can knot a tie with it and also wear it casually for your weekend outing.
• Single button shirt: This is ideal for casual wear for example with jeans and a blazer.
A GENTLEMAN’S TIE
Working with neckties is very much a matter of personal taste, but in conservative terms there are some basic guidelines.
• One of the biggest style worries of men is how big their tie knot should be and how well it is tied is an even more contentious issue
• All ties come with a length. Whichever knot you prefer, make sure your tie is not tucked into your trousers.
• We advise that our customers should go for a 100% silk tie. It is easy to knot and dry clean. Ties which are 3.5-4 inches wide and 62 inches long give you different knots of your choice.
• Ties should always be darker than the wearer's shirt. The background colour of the tie should not be the same as that of the shirt, while the foreground of the tie should contain the colour of the shirt and thereby "pick up" on the colour of the shirt.
• In recent times however, it has become popular to match the necktie colour with the shirt or even wearing a lighter coloured tie with a darker shirt, usually during formal occasions.
• Ideally, the tie should also integrate the colour of the suit in the same way.
• Generally, simple or subdued patterns are preferred for conservative dress.
• Once properly knotted and arranged, the bottom of the tie can extend anywhere from the wearer's navel level, to slightly below the waistband. The thin end should never extend below the wide end.
THE RIGHT SHOES
It is often said that a man’s shoes are his most important item of clothing. On most occasions, a man with a decent pair of shoes on his feet will find that his cheap jeans, budget shirts and bargain sweaters will be benevolently overlooked. It is important to have a classy, well broken in pair of shoes.
CUFFLINKS
Cufflinks and knots are essential for a double cuff shirt. They are sold as a pair to adorn the buttonholes of a man’s long sleeve shirt. Cufflinks close the buttonholes of the cuff.
• Choose links that will go with most of your shirts and ties. Steel or silver is a good bet, unless you wear a gold watch.
• The double cuff has made a massive return to fashion and is once again the cuff of choice for work. Cufflinks on a shirt will boost your confidence.
A FINAL WORD
Within the first three seconds of a new encounter you are evaluated, even if it is just a glance, people appraise your appearance from head to toe assessing your grooming and accessories. In this time, you make an indelible impression. You may intrigue some and disenchant others but…you never get a second chance to make a first impression.
