TIPS ON DRESSING ETIQUETTE BY GMSTYLES – PART 1
A GENTLEMAN’S SUIT
The suit is still the most elegant item of clothing a man can wear so long as its cut, color, fabric and style suit the occasion, time of day, the season of the year and the climate.
Assuming you’re not an investment banker, you don’t need ten suits; you only need four. This means you can spend time accumulating them, then keeping your suits in good condition.
A few general rules apply when approaching a suit, and most apply to good dressing in general.
THE CUT
• By a good cut, we mean the basic pattern that has been used again and again since the 1930’s, irrespective of fashion and trends. The cut of a tailored suit should look natural and bring out the best in its wearer.
• A thin, small boned man should go for suits with a narrow cut and no shoulder padding, narrow lapels and close-fitting trousers.
• An athletic, broad shouldered man will not require shoulder padding either and the suit should be cut to his natural measurements.
• If the wearer is a large gentleman, it is even more advisable to avoid anything in the cut that will make him look larger, opting ideally for XXL sizes and king size tailoring.
THE FABRIC
• Suits are made of wool or cotton, and their variations. Additional fabrics need not apply.
• Today’s men’s suits are much lighter than those of the past, but there are still considerable differences in the weight and thickness of the material used. You should start by thinking about where you will be wearing the suit, i.e. the climate, temperature and how often you will wear it.
• If you wear your suit frequently, it is advisable to purchase a machine washable suit as they are usually stain resistant, crease free, durable and extremely comfortable.
THE COLOR
• Traditional colors regarded correct for a suit are dark blue, dark grey to very light grey and black. A brown suit should be worn only at the weekend or for occasions.
• The Standard blue – This is great for business, lunches, summer dinners or casual parties. It can be worn with black or brown shoes. Standard blue means navy, with no room for paler shades.
• The Classic grey – Appropriate for everything. Grey also are the best with patterns, especially anything in the chevron family. The grey is never controversial.
• The Basic Black – This is a perennial classic, it’s a fit at a major event or your sister’s wedding, the perfect compliment to a good white shirt.
• Pinstripes - Any of the above colors, with pinstripes.
THE JACKET
• First, are you a single-breasted man or a double? While both styles fit most body types, single-breasted jackets tend to flatter the slim while double-breasted jackets make the broad look mighty. Choose the jacket style that you can best fill out – from there you’ll always look best.
• Buttons - For those opting for the single-breasted jacket, you’ll have to choose how many buttons you want and this brings us to buttoning.
o Two-button jacket: Button the top button only. Do not button the bottom button.
o Three-button jacket: Button either the middle button alone or the two top buttons.
• Lastly, the fit should be close to the body with no wrinkles when you button. Vents, double or single are preferred to the vent-less jacket.
• A suit jacket goes with suit trousers, not with jeans or chinos. If you want a casual jacket, buy a sport-coat or blazer.
THE TROUSERS
• You must now choose a trouser style. Choose according to your image of yourself.
• Pleats - The only times pleats are wanted in the single pleat case, are on a pair of wool trousers. The case should be that the trousers look crisp and well folded, rather than puckered. This means that the line down the middle of the leg must look just like a pair of trouser recently back from the dry cleaners.
• You need to worry about waist, swish, drape, belt-loops. Trousers shouldn’t blow like a scarf in the breeze. The best way to judge a pair of trousers is to ask yourself, “Would I wear these trousers out without the jacket?” If so, they’re fine. If not, move on.

WHY I AM HOSTING A TV REALITY SHOW - AGBANI DAREGO
A new reality show is about to make its debut on the airwaves. The show tagged “Stylogenic” will be woven around the concept of a style team which includes make-up artists, hair stylists, models, photographers and stylists. The host of the show will be the international renowned super model and former Miss World, Agbani Darego. Recently Agbani was in the country at the official launch of this reality show which took place in Lagos and in this interview, she opened up on why she is identifing with the show.
It’s been quite a while since emerged as the first and only black African winner of the Miss World contest. Between then and now, what have you been doing?
Well, I have been very busy. I have been in school. I have been studying at the New York University for degree in Psychology. I have been doing a lot of modeling work. So, it’s not as if I have been away doing nothing.
About Stylogenic – what is it all about, what will be its focus?
Firstly, I must say that the show is quite unique, in the sense that unlike other reality TV shows, it won’t be focused on a particular individual, or one aspect of fashion. It’s going to be focused on the whole aspects of fashion. In essence, it will be focused on a group of people involved in fashion such as the designer, the model, the make-up artist, the stylist, the hair stylist and the photographer. What this means is that at the end of every edition when there is an eviction, not one person will be evicted, but the whole team.
And I think that the whole idea that it not just going to be limited to Nigeria alone, but pan-African, makes it quite a lovely concept. Also the show is not going to be reaching out only to Africans here on the continent, but Africans in the Diaspora as well. Also there will be casting sessions in London, New York, Johannesburg, Nairobi and Lagos. So, I believe that’s a great opportunity to take the African fashion industry to a new height, and for me, when I was approached to host the show, I was like ‘wow!’ It’s a great opportunity, it is something I can be very proud lending my name to, and it also offers me the opportunity to spend more time at home.
So, what sense of style is the show trying to portray?
It’s trying to portray a sense of style that everyone has. It’s just like you woke up this morning, you went through your closet, and you wanted to wear a particular thing. Why? It’s because that’s what makes you feel good. Today, over 94 per cent of people believe that the fact that because they work hard, they should look good, they should reward themselves. ‘I want to reward myself, I want to look good.’ So, every individual has his or her own sense of style. We are not trying to say that this is a perfect style because we all have our sense of style. For example, in Nigeria there are so many ethnic groups, and each one of them has its own different attire. That’s stylish, that is being fashionable; that’s style, and that’s what we are trying to promote. Everyone has a sense of style that they are proud of, and we are not trying to change it.
Is Stylogenic modeled after Project Runway? Is it something close to it?
Well, in some ways it is similar, but in many other ways it is different. Project Runway features just the designer. So, in that aspect it is going to be totally different. I think the only similarity is that at each episode, the contesting teams are given a task like in Project Runway. Stylogenic is going to be focused on a style team, a whole team of people, and not on one person, or one aspect of fashion.
Who and who are going to be the judges for the show?
I guess you have to watch the show to find out. But I can tell you this that we are going to invite international buyers from all over the world, people who already know their trade and what fashion is all about.
How many contestants are you looking at?
It’s going to be a team of six people, and there are going to be several teams. I believe we will have six teams made up of six people, and we are going to have 13 episodes.
How long will it run?
At one episode a week, I think that will be about three months.
On a personal note, what sense of style will you try to inject into the show?
For me, I am not trying to force my sense of style on anyone. The show is about people being aware of style. My own preferences, or choice of style quite different from that of everyone, because we all different types of people. My own sense of style speaks for itself as does that of every other person. It says who I am, who Agbani Darego is.

PROVE THAT I AM A THIEF.•IBB DARES NIGERIANS •LISTS 2011 WINNING STRATEGY•HE'S WASTIME- PROPHET
FORMER military president, General Ibrahim Babangida, has challenged Nigerians, particularly his critics to prove that he is a thief.
The former military president recently made public his resolve to contest the 2011 presidential polls, following which allegation that he had explanations to make over the way he allegedly mismanaged the $12.4 billion Gulf War windfall came from some quarters against him.
Babangida, who had a chat with airport journalists at the presidential wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport on Friday, said whoever had anything against him should be ready to prove it, saying he could not be distracted from pursuing his presidential ambition.
His words: “I am glad you said distractions. If you call me a thief and you can prove it, you know what to do, not to make noise about it, go ahead and prove it.”
The former military president, who remained unperturbed by the antics of his political detractors on his ambition to lead the country again come 2011, indicated strategies to win the forthcoming poll.
Babangida noted that he would employ the platforms, including the voting public and the political party under which platform he would be running.
He said he would fall on these options if he was unable to achieve his goal under the ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP).
The former military leader, who agreed that he touched many lives in his eight years rule across the six geo-political zones, said this would be a requisite for winning the next year’s election.
He expressed his belief in using his experience to bring Nigerians across ethnic and religious divide together as one cohesive entity by delivering the dividend of democracy.
“I believe that it is true and I have the requisite experience to make it come true,” he reiterated.
Mixed reactions have continued to greet the plans by the former leader to gun for the number one seat in the country next year with his political enemies crying foul over the ambition while his loyalists across the nation have described him as the best candidate the country requires now.
In pursuit of his ambition, the former military leader has embarked on consultations across the country to sample opinions and strategise as elections draw nearer.
The General Overseer of the Evangelical Bible Outreach Prayer Ministry International, Prophet Isa El-Buba, has implored Nigerians not to bother themselves about the political aspiration of former military president, General Ibrahim Babangida, saying that the hand of God was not upon him and could never rule Nigeria again.
Speaking with newsmen in Jos, Prophet El-Buba said Babangida was simply dissipating his energy and resources in vain, adding that those whom God had not chosen could not force themselves on Nigerians, as leaders, otherwise they would incur the wrath of God.
The general overseer stated that all the hardship being experienced in the country currently started as a result of his bad style of leadership, induced by high level corruption.
Said he: “The pains of Nigerians originated from Babangida through his bad economic policies. He messed up the country and institutionalised corruption. If he cannot change the phase of the country as military president with such an enormous power, there is nothing he can do in this present situation.”
“The most important thing is that God has rejected him; the hand of God is not upon him as far as 2011 presidential election is concern. He is simply dissipating his energy and resources in vain,” he said.
Prophet El-Buba said the circumstances surrounding the emergence of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan as the acting president of Nigeria depicted that the hand of God was upon him and advised him to steer the affairs of the nation in line with the desire of the common people, adding that his commitment to pursue energy and electoral reforms was a welcome development.
According to him, his name would go down in history, if he can show full and total commitment to the sectors as one of the great leaders of Nigeria.
He added added that to achieve this, the acting president must shut his ears to those parading themselves as godfathers.
The clergyman condemned those clamouring for power to remain in the North, adding that the era where the North thought it could go it all alone as far as leadership of Nigeria was concern was over. He scaid what the nation needed now was a leader that could address the myriad of problems confronting the country.
“We the North should not think we have the monopoly of power, we cannot do it alone. It is high time we put aside the mentality that the vote of the North can make any candidate become the president of this great nation.
“All what we need as a nation is a good leader no matter where he comes from, a leader who can pursue the need of the common man,” he said.

It was gathered that drafting Ribadu into the presidential race next year is the Plan B of the Obasanjo camp, in case the desire for Acting President Goodluck Jonathan to contest in the election, owing to the zoning arrangement in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) fails. Also, the other option is for him to be INEC chairman.
Jonathan had told the Cable News Network (CNN) that he had many option regarding next year’s elections. According to him, he has the option of running as somebody’s vice presidential candidate or, in the alternative, running for president, despite saying that this is not his priority at the moment.
However, sources close to Obasanjo said that realising that it could be difficult to sell the Jonathan 2011 presidency to the North, most especially, since the zone wants to also have eight years rule, as the South did between 1999 and 2007, the former President’s camp considered the option of getting somebody, who is popular, from the North, to contest for the number one seat.
It was gathered that Ribadu was considered, as the Obasanjo camp reckoned that with his popularity, garnered while he was chairman of the EFCC, he would be accepted by most Nigerians, if presented for the election.
Plan to remove his blemish
To set the tune for the option, the camp pressed for the withdrawal of charges against the former EFCC chairman before the Code of Conduct Bureau. With this done, it was learnt that the next plan is for Ribadu’s dismissal from the police to be converted to retirement. Also, the group is working to get the court to speed up the case Ribadu filed against the police, challenging his dismissal, where it is expected that the police action would be voided by the court.
Sources revealed that contrary to the belief that Jonathan wants to reappoint Ribadu as chairman of the EFCC or presidential adviser on war against corruption, the real plan is to clear whatever encumbrance may hinder the former anti-graft czar from contesting election so that if the group settles for Plan B, he would be drafted into the 2011 race.
Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Alhaji Mohammed Adoke, had, during a visit to the EFCC recently, said that government had no plan to reappoint Ribadu as the anti-graft agency chairman. Ribadu himself, while speaking from the United States, had also said something to the effect that he was not aware of any plan for him to return to the EFCC. He had hinted that he would return to the country in May.
Ribadu expected back next month
When Ribadu returns, he would make himself visible, by what he would be saying as well as his daily activities. This is in order for him to return to public consciousness, while he awaits the greenlight for his role in 2011 elections.
It was gathered that media teams were being set up for the former EFCC chairman, with a view to managing his image boosting campaign.
The INEC option
Saturday Sun gathered that with Jonathan’s promise to ensure that the country conducts credible election next year, Ribadu may play a role in the conduct of the election. Specifically, sources close to the presidential villa said that he maybe appointed to replace Prof Maurice Iwu, whose tenure as INEC chairman will end in June.
The option to have Ribadu at INEC, it was gathered, is to have an electoral body Nigerians and the international community will have confidence in. His activities at the EFCC, it was learnt, gave the impetus that he would do well as INEC chairman.
Jonathan had hinted that there would be a shake-up at INEC during his trip to the US. He had told the CNN that the tenure of Iwu and other commissioners of INEC would end by June, by which time, he revealed, the government would review their cases on individual merit.
He had said in the interview with CNN: “On the issue of the people at INEC, I told them that, look, between now and ending of June, most of the officials at the national level – they’re called commissioners – their tenure will end, and we’re going to review them.”
He also said: “So, the issue is beyond Iwu because we must set up an electoral system and our regulations and laws that will make sure that anybody who is appointed to that office should be able to conduct acceptable elections. And that is my focus.”
Jonathan’s meeting with Ribadu
The Jonathan camp is in the know about the plans for Ribadu. This is why charges against the former police officer were withdrawn. This is also why the acting president met with him in the US, during his five-day visit.
In the meeting, Jonathan was said to have assured Ribadu of his safety in Nigeria. He also told him that he would get a role in the coming days in the country, without specifically revealing his plan.

A DAY WITH REV. GEORGE ADEGBOYE
Last week, I had the opportunity to interview one of the greatest men in Christendom; Rev. George Adegboye, the founder of the popular Rhema Chapel International. I was glad and honored to hang out with one man who has touched so many lives. The interesting thing is that his ministry touched my life in a very remarkable way while still an undergraduate. Then, anytime he visited Ibadan for special ministrations, we couldn’t get close to him because there were so many protocols to overcome. So when I got an invitation to come to Ilorin, the headquarter base of the church, to interview this man of God of high repute popularly known as “Walking Bible”, I quickly grabbed the opportunity. The trip to Ilorin was long and tiring, but I didn’t mind because I couldn’t wait to interview this man of God. And when we finally got there, Rev. George stunned me with his humble and down-to-heart personality. He is so influential, famous, yet very humble.
The interview lasted for 2 hours and he opened up on his life, ministry, marriage and success secrets. Trust him, he was so eloquent and dished out the right answers without hesitation, for each questions.
Afterwards, he treated me to a first class reception. It was really good and a very memorable experience.
I will post the full interview on this Blog soon. It’s quite interesting and revealing!!!

ABOUT A LAGOS DOCTOR WHO MAKES BABIES
Right now in Lagos, Dr Abayomi Ajayi is somebody who everyone is going to as regards the conception of the fruit of the womb. He is making waves in Nigeria based on what he is doing. Over the years, he has brought succor and hope to reproductively challenged couples. And because of that, people gravitate towards him.
His fertility centre known as Nordica Centre has become one of Nigeria’s leading centers for world class assisted reproductive services. His core competence is infertility management. Their services are world class, as they have direct access to research findings from The Institute of Human Reproduction, Sybion, Fruebjerguel, Denmark and also with doctors and technicians at The Fertility Unit of Herlev University of Copenhagen. This keeps them abreast of the latest development in the field of Assisted Reproduction.
One will be amazed how people come from far and near to his fertility clinic in Yaba and Victoria Island both based in Lagos for assistance. Last year, he also opened another branch in Asaba to attend to couples in that jurisdiction. He has the passion of making the facility readily available to everyone, which was actually why he opened the Asaba centre last year November. All his 3 centers offer a comprehensive list of assisted conception therapy amongst which is comprehensive gynecological assessment, timed intercourse, ovulation induction and cycle monitoring, artificial insemination, including donor insemination, amongst others.
And with the increasing cases of infertility amongst married couples in Nigeria and its capacity to disrupt domestic harmony, the Nordica Fertility Centre could not have come at a better time.
According to Dr Ajayi, statistics reveals that one in every four or five married couples are infertile, adding that in Nigeria over 40-45% of all consultations in gynecological clinics are infertility related. And IVF has provided succor for couples who have lost hope of conception. It is a solution for a lot of couples that have lost hope of getting children. Some even now go home with twins and triplets.
According to him, “IVF is a solution to many infertility problem or challenges. For the fact that the success rate is not 100 per cent does not mean it does not work. It works. The percentage is between 25 and 30 percent. And I think that’s a good one because what does nature even offer us? Nature gives us about 18-20 per cent. So if nature gives you 18-20 percent and IVF gives you 25-30 per cent that means it is a good one. And it has put smiles on the faces of so many couples; it has brought joy to many homes.
IVF has come a long way in Nigeria. And it is getting better by the day.And what makes the story interesting is the fact that more Nigerians are beginning to embrace this conception technique despite the high cost that it entails. The price ranges between N650, 000 to N2, 000,000. This is because of the compensation to be made for either the sperm or egg donor, the medical bills and all the other expenses. But a lot of people don’t even mind these days as some see it as a better alternative to adoption since the baby is going to still have their gene.
According to what was gathered, most people who undergo this procedure are always very rich because of its cost implication. A lot of comfortable and average couples are also not losing out, most of the time, what they do is to actually take up a saving plan for a couple of years to enable them actualize their dream.
And for Dr Ajayi, it has been a success story in just 5 years as people are really getting the results. The clinic has produced over 400 babies. Couple of months back, he even had a birthday ceremony for the first baby ever from the centre to prove to the world that it’s not just about the noise or the glamour but what they do at the centre is real. The boy, Julian marked his 5th year birthday in the company of his parents, Nordica team and family. Also a lot of couples, who have benefited from the IVF procedures through the centre, were present for the celebration with their babies. No doubt, Dr Ajayi has become a remarkable force in that terrain.
